S.P.K

I would like to take this time and talk about a group that has had a heavy influence on me musically
That group is "S.P.K"(not to be confused with the hip hop spk) now there are many groups/MC's in hip hop that also
have help molded my musical mind-set and i will make a post about that in the near future.
Onto s.p.k-It was around 1996 people were still buying cd's .. while digging in the crates one night at the infamous Bleeker Bobs record store in nyc which is still there till this day one of the last living record stores
(also was featured on a seinfield episode) i remember a cd that was displayed and the cover caught my attention
it was black and white picture of some obscure brain surgery going on and had a strange title "lechenschrei"..i read the tracklisting and it seemed interesting..i bought the cd for around 15 bucks used, when i got home i threw it in the system... my first experience with s.p.k was an unforgettable one... as i played the cd right away on the first track i was taken into a world of music i have never witnessed before, eerie sounds generated by odd instruments..
being a fan of horror the dark and obscure i was digging what i was hearing .. i listened to the cd all the way thru
and was just fascinated by what i heard... also a little unsettled ..this is strange ground breaking stuff..
there was no internet back then so i had to research this group the old fashioned way..i purchased more of their albums, each one had a sound completely different from the last.. this was innovative and different ...needed to know more about this mysterious s.p.k .. i found a book wrote by s.p.k! in an odd book store in the city..this was a rare find full of gems and information .. s.p.k laid the foundation for electronic music in the 80's and are the creators of experimental electronic music. What i admire most is how s.p.k went from one of the most insane obscure music acts to producing almost every soundtrack that you hear in Hollywood films till this day!

i will now post an article related to them below-

SPK:
was formed in 1978 in Australia was one of the 1980s, industrial and noise act again featuring Graeme Revell who later went on to compose soundtracks for film and TV all the incidental music for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Details - Individual;

Operator - synthesizers rhythms treatments song
Wilkins - bass guitar band song
Mr. Clean - techniques
Tone Generator - synthesisers treatments

& mdash - The group was formed when Revell (aka Operator) met up with Neil Hill (aka Ne / H / IL) They were both working at a psychiatric hospital when they were inspired by the manifesto of the German radical Marxist group called the Socialistes Patients Collective (SPK) The following words inspired by the SPK manifesto is one of the band's first recordings Slogun (1979): "Kill Kill Kill for inner peace / Bomb Bomb Bomb Mental Health / Therapy through violence!" Dominik Guerin (aka Tone Generator) joined in 1980 and was later to concentrate on the band's notorious visual content Guerin and Revell recorded the first disc information overload unit (1981) in a Vauxhall squats (the Brixton riots in London) by Revell brother Ash (aka MrClean) and Wilkins (guitar / bass) after the recording of SPK's second album Leichenschrei ("The Scream of the corpse") (1982) they were joined by Sinan Leong who had initially auditioned for a planned SPK side project Dance Macabre She Revell and later married infirst week in February 1984 just short of his 28th birthday Neil Hill committed suicide two days before his wife Margaret Nikitenko died due to complications from anorexia

Other musicians working with SPK included Danny rumors and David Virgin, which was the band's first recordings made in 1979, James Pinker and Karel van Bergan who toured the U.S. in 1982 with Guerin and Revell Brian Williams of Lustmord John Murphy by Forrest di Ferro (better known as Kraang) and Derek Thompson, who later had a brief stint in The Cure and went on to record as Hoodlum Priest Thompson claims that he left the SGC when the founders Revell wanted to take the band in what Thompson perceived as a more commercial direction -
(the above two paragraphs from the Wikipedia entry that redigested by Dominik Guerin ex-SPK)

The meaning of the SPK abbreviation is unclear and has changed: sometimes it was given as Surgical Penis Klinik other times Sozialistische patient collective, the most notable works SPK is the early work Leichenschrei and Auto da Fé SPK's early music can best be described as disturbing and psychologically confusing in line with their nihilistic, subversive philosophy

The project ideal is to express the content of various psycho-pathalogical conditions particularly schizophrenia, manic - depressive psychosis, mental retardation and paranoia Information Overload supersedes normal rational thought structures, forcing deviation of less restrictive mental procedures so-called "mental illness" SPK try to be a vois of the personscondemned to the slow decay of mental hospitals and chemical / electro / surgical treatment without fetishising them in broad entertainment product SONIC THE manics "aims to be a vehicle for sharing mental experiences through sound

" The average IQ "fighters" was 91, for "non-fighters" 78 whereas the mean IQ of the whole group of combat soldiers, 85 ie 15 percentage points below the average in other words, less intelligent men are those of the contravention and the more intelligent among them, yet they are still well below average "

Nearly 50% of psychoneurotic soldiers in the army for over 18 months and 22% were commissioned officers of any kind, in fact, psycho EUR tics were 50% more likely to be promoted to NCO than normal private "

" Fighters "was smaller and more ectomorphic meadmorphic than" non-fighters "on average one inch taller and 8 pounds heavier first sexual experience occurred one year later for Fighters (15yrs to 14yrs 3mths 8mths) The fighter has faster reflexes and perform much better in pencil maze and mirror drawing tests, very few first-born child as a whole more worried "

" We have started working on the second disc: Leichenschrei will be released from the UK in April 82, this will be the final product as we planned but it will be a motion in video and film begins with L'Etat Haemophiliaque (internal bleeding) which is in progress and will have its first show in Australia later this year SPK will särskildaISE soundtrack in a medium, we have always had a strong sewingmpati with

In response to the great interest in our project so far, we have decided to dedicate a document to an explanation of some of the areas of research on sound and graphics that we have used subliminal content of the lyrics and voice band occupies much of our attention, but it requires feedback from others to evaluate their effectiveness That is why we always encourage correspondence, although different members of the group wish to remain anonymous (as far as possible) In addition, we try to give some interesting information about the experiments of mental phenomena and to dispel some of the bad myths about infrared / ultra-sonics "

" We have often been asked why seemingly begränsaoss to the mental realm answer is that we feel the need to entertensifiera interest in the specific locus of consent to be oppressed in the individual, we therefore assert that "politikal" but not in the accepted sense of the word "

In 1982, the SPK will abandon its previous practice of limited public appearances with scheduled live assault in Japan, Europe and America

INFRA / ultrasound
Audio sources at frequencies outside nomlal limits of human hearing response is the subject of much popular mythology First research on the depth of the U.S. military in the 50's they are now primarily used in warfare and medicine SPK has used certain types of low and high frequency generators: a time to live assault Here are some facts about such signals
Infrasound or frequencies below 20 Hz is oftena byproduct of the transport air heating / cooling system compressors, transformers and vibration / acceleration phenomena But experimentally to generate these frequencies at the appropriate levels to hear (or rather to experience) requires enormous power and great and special equipment (eg, piston-driven speakers) The volume factor that is required is greater than even the most vocal aero-turbine at some frequencies, however, once created irritation thresholds increase rapidly as we take the oscillator or noise generator down through the field after the tactile sensations become clear there is a dramatic leap in response curve (ie below 10 Hz) at 20 Hz, it requires 852 dB for the signal to be seen to rise to 921 dB at 15 Hz 10 Hz 995 ent 1111 at 5 Hz and a massive1214 dB at 2 Hz
The subjective responses experimentally gained by exposing subjects to whole-body areas
2 - 5 Hz (137 dB) - speech / accent chest wall vibration swaying sensations lethargy drowsiness, headache and fatigue
5 - 15 Hz - middle ear pain, difficulty speaking / intonation severe chest vibrations severe abdominal vibrations and nausea falling feeling a lack of concentration / drowsiness severe tiredness / headache
15 to 20 Hz - severe middle-ear pain difficulty breathing severe chest vibration gagging sensations

Live performances are really disturbing video support (something that was out of two videos "" and "Human Postmortem: Two Autopsy Films & # 8221;) trangressive imagine nor with animal carcasses and other usually successful attempts to make the audience very uncomfortable group issued radical manifestos as "The Post-Industrial Strategy, published in RE / Search 's Industrial Culture Handbook

later editions were more synth-pop oriented than industrial Especially 12 "Metal Dance / will to power integrated industrial percussion in a dark synth pop song, their auto-da-Fe includes other early mergers of synth and industrial With 1984's Machine Age Voodoo band promoted their 'Metal Dance' style (especially on High Tension and Junk Funk titled Machine Age Voodoo in the U.S.) but also showed surprising can leave poppie material with love from China as a whole: ee album is far from the band's calculatedly destructive in the past but itappointed Wax Trax / Nettwerk dance-industrial sound of the late 1980's Machine Age Voodoo is still one of the popular synth / dance album that has only recently appeared on CD

Later, the group moved to the electronic orchestral works with Zamia Lehmanni - Songs of Byzantine Flowers actually very beautiful music highlighted by red-handed, which would be used in the film Dead Calm, thereby marking the beginning of Revell's soundtrack composing career

After mediocre Off The Deep End 12 "in 1986 (although the B-side Kambuja is a gripping political track on Cambodia ) Revell teamed up with another singer Katrina Hayes for gold, and Poison the first page of which contained synth-dance track (especially the excellent moody single Breathless and stupid but catchy Mouth to Mouth) B-side remixat some songs from Zamia Lehmanni and added a large anti-nuclear-track White Island

1988 saw SPK final release a terrible "live" album called Oceania: In Performance 1987 Much of their pre-1984 work reissued on CD by Mute's Grey Area imprint in 1990

Graeme Revell has now all but removed SPK from his resume, he hardly recognizes his musical past in interviews
